I'm Wendy, Owner, Designer and Creator of Wendy Bell Designs

Hi there!

If this is the first time you've come across my company, welcome!

Where it all began…

I was born to be a designer. Ever since I was a little girl, I have known I wanted to design and envisaged owning my own company.

As a child, I spent hours drawing dresses - to the point where everyone thought I would become a fashion designer. As a teenager, I was drawn to interior design and wondered if that would be where my future lay. However, it wasn’t until I went to university to study a BA Hons in Printed Textile Design that I discovered screen printing and fell in love with all things print.

Established in 2011

To say I’ve had an eclectic and disjointed career so far is possibly an understatement. It’s been hard and I have very much struggled to find my feet. I’ve always known that I belong somewhere but that “where” has been tough to find.

At the end of 2009 I, along with many people across the country, was made redundant. Design jobs were scarce and I was losing out on them to a flip of a coin. I managed to get a job working night shifts in a pub and decided it was time to take the plunge so Wendy Bell Designs came to fruition in April 2011. What began as a wedding stationery design service, has evolved over the years to become an award winning design studio supplying both trade and consumers with beautifully luxurious paper products and gifts, all made right here in England.

My Style

Even back at university, my work wasn’t traditional in comparison to my peers. I loved to paint but it was abstract and much more about texture and the feelings that the work evoked rather than traditional repeat patterns. I guess I bridged a gap somewhere between being an artist and a designer.

In 2018 I discovered alcohol inks and I’ve never looked back since. They’re insanely difficult to control as they move very fast and evaporate even quicker! They produce beautiful effects and I find them very therapeutic to use. Most of the collections that I create (including silk scarves and jewellery) have begun with a piece of alcohol ink art.

More about me?

I’m actually from London but moved to Shrewsbury in Shropshire in 2017. Honestly it was one of the best decisions. To say the countryside is beautiful in Shropshire is an understatement. I am now far more active than I ever was and love a good hill walk with my dog, Bekaa – she’s a basenji.

And finally...
